Welcome to the Tutorials section of nonvisualdevelopment.org. This area contains organized sets of content that you can step through to perform various programming and technical tasks.

How To Make Tutorial Pages

This page is the upper most book page in the Tutorials section of the site. If you want to create a new tutorial, which in Drupal terms is a book, simply click the "Create Child Page" link on this page.

When the new page comes up, it will contain a form.

Fill in the Title field.

Fill out the Body field with your content. Pay attention to the instructions below the link called "Input Format," immediately below the Body field. The instructions below that link explain which HTML tags you can use and how the site processes them. If you see no instructions below this link, activate the link. They will appear.

Tip: I like to use Word or some other program that can spell check my document so that I have a good chance at creating a professional presentation.

Click the link that says "Book outline."

A pair of lists will appear below that link.

Use one to create a new book. Use the other to choose Tutorials. This way, anyone who comes to the site will be able to go to the tutorial page and see all the books they can read. Optionally, you can create a book within another book if that makes sense.

There is also a Weight list here. You can use it to force the site to order pages in your book at the current level. If you increase the number in the list, you push the book page down on the list of book pages at the current level. If you decrease the number in the list, you push the book page up in the list of book pages at the current level. Any pages at the same level that have the same weight number appear alphabetically at that level. For example, let's say you create three pages at the same level and give them all a weight of 0. If the page titles are A, B, and C, page A will appear first in the list of book pages. Page B will appear in the middle. Page C will appear at the bottom end. Now let's say that you give the page titled C a weight of -1. That page will suddenly appear before the page titled A. If you then reset the page titled C's level back to 0, it will again appear after pages titled A and B. Finally, if you change the weight of the page titled A so that it reads 1, it will jump to the bottom of the list. The page order will be B, C, a.

When you create subsequent pages in your book, go to the top page.

Click "Create Child Page."

Set the lists at the bottom of the Body field so that the parent page is one of the pages of your book.

You can create a child page starting with any page in your book. When you do that, the site will set the parent field for you.
